Gravitational-wave searches in the era of Advanced LIGO and Virgo

چکیده
The field of gravitational-wave astronomy has been opened up by observations made with interferometric detectors. This review surveys the current state-of-the-art in detectors and data analysis methods currently used Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory United States Virgo Italy. These will also be recently completed KAGRA Japan. Data algorithms are developed to target one four classes gravitational waves. Short duration, transient sources include compact binary coalescences, burst originating from poorly modelled or unanticipated sources. Long duration which emit continuous signals consistent frequency, many unresolved forming a stochastic background. A description potential search for waves each these detailed.

Searches for Gravitational Wave Transients in the Ligo and Virgo Data
In 2011, the Virgo gravitational wave (GW) detector will definitively end its science program following the shut-down of the LIGO detectors the year before. The years to come will be devoted to the development and installation of second generation detectors. It is the opportune time to review what has been learned from the GW searches in the kilometric interferometers data. Since 2007, data hav...
متن کاملLIGO / VIRGO searches for gravitational radiation in hypernovae
A torus around a stellar mass Kerr black hole can emit about 10% of the spin-energy of the black hole in gravitational radiation, potentially associated with a gamma-ray burst. Wide tori may develop buckling modes by the Papaloizou-Pringle instability and gravitational radiation-reaction forces in the Burke-Thorne approximation. Gravitational wave experiments may discover these emissions in a f...
متن کاملProspects for Observing and Localizing Gravitational-Wave Transients with Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo
We present a possible observing scenario for the Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo gravitational-wave detectors over the next decade, with the intention of providing information to the astronomy community to facilitate planning for multi-messenger astronomy with gravitational waves. We determine the expected sensitivity of the network to transient gravitational-wave signals, and study the capabi...
متن کاملLOCALIZATION OF SHORT DURATION GRAVITATIONAL- WAVE TRANSIENTS WITH THE EARLY ADVANCED LIGO AND VIRGO DETECTORS Citation
The Laser Interferometer Gravitational wave Observatory (LIGO) and Virgo advanced ground-based gravitationalwave detectors will begin collecting science data in 2015. With first detections expected to follow, it is important to quantify how well generic gravitational-wave transients can be localized on the sky. This is crucial for correctly identifying electromagnetic counterparts as well as un...
متن کاملUsed percentage veto for LIGO and virgo binary inspiral searches
A challenge for ground-based gravitational wave detectors such as LIGO and Virgo is to understand the origin of non-astrophysical transients that contribute to the background noise, obscuring real astrophysically produced signals. To help this effort, there are a number of environmental and instrumental sensors around the site, recording data in “channels”. We developed a method called the used...
